Origins

From Addis Ababa

Born and raised in Ethiopia — a civilization older than most. A few things worth knowing about where I come from.

Ethiopia has its own calendar, its own script (Ge'ez), and the only African nation never colonized. It is the birthplace of coffee, Christianity arrived here in the 4th century, and it gave the world some of the most enduring architecture ever built.

Ethiopian Orthodox Church

One of the world's oldest Christian churches, established in the 4th century AD. Ethiopia is among the first nations to officially adopt Christianity — centuries before much of Europe.

Lalibela — ላሊበላ

12th-century rock-hewn churches carved entirely from solid volcanic rock. Eleven churches, still active places of worship. A UNESCO World Heritage site and one of humanity's greatest architectural feats.

Coffee Ceremony — ቡና ማፍያ

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. The bunna ceremony — roasting, grinding, brewing in community — is daily ritual hospitality and one of the most meaningful social traditions on earth.
